Lolita style

I stumbled upon this while looking at photos of Robe a la Polonaise...

This is a dress in a lolita fashion..

And so is this:

This is a robe a la polonaise (repurposed from a robe a l'anglaise):

I mean, this might seem like a really small thing, but Lolita fashion is based off of Victorian era gowns, and I never really thought about this until I was doing research...

Maybe next week I'll talk more about the Lolita fashion.

I just wanted my fashion lovers to see this.... because I certainly had a bit of a "wait, I knew it but I didn't see it until now..." moment.

Robe Francaise vs. Robe Anglaise.

So in my Costume Design Techniques class, we are learning about the 1700's. The thing that I wanted to express is that there were two really big differences during this period. We had the English who were more somber and exhibited the "Georgian" fashion, modeled after the reign of multiple King George. The French were more flamboyant and flashy in their fashions. This, of course, sparked competition and a sharing of fashions.

What I wanted to share was the differences and similarities between two pieces that would create a new fashion that was popularized by Marie Antoinette.

So this is Robe Francaise:

Robe Francaise's biggest trait is that its sleeves are poofed and the drapery is a signature of robe francaise. It's also fitted at the front.

Robe Anglaise:

Robe Anglaise is marked by its fitted sleeves. The drapery is mostly in the back and it is fitted all the way around the waist.

Both these dress styles were later repurposed.

They created the Robe Polonaise.

The hem was hiked up so that the petticoat could be seen. The hem of the petticoat was raised to show the ankles. The sides and the back are ruffled and not draped. By the sleeves and the fit around the waist, we can see that this particular example was a Robe Francaise.

Amazing... Wonderful... I will conquer my enemies in this...

So I decided that I would write about something other than cosmetics for once.

This is a dress that my friend sent me on Facebook.

This dress was made for the Spring/Summer collection in 1998 for the House of Dior. The designer is John Galliano and it is now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Let's take a moment to appreciate this gown.

It's definitely influenced by the 18th/19th century but man is it gorgeous. Imagine being in this gown. Imagine the structure that supports its shape and how in order to get that shape, someone spent hours configuring the under metal skirt in order to align it just right. Even movement wouldn't deter the shape of it.

I just can't...
It's so beautiful...
I want to wear it. I want to sleep in it. (Probably impossible)
I keep saying I want to conquer my enemies in it, and what I mean by that is that this dress would make me feel so wonderful and powerful. The gown itself has such a presence that it would captivate attention no matter who wore it.

I want... At least to see it. *-*

Deities, imagine wearing a large black jeweled necklace that had lace accents and tapered into a point. Imagine having your hair up with strands falling a bit loose and your wrists mirroring the jewels on your neck.
Sapphires...
Yes.
